Traditional Alilo Procession on Orthodox Christmas

On January 7th, Tbilisi will host the annual Alilo procession, a cherished tradition celebrated on Orthodox Christmas. This festive march, deeply rooted in Georgian culture, brings together participants dressed as angels, shepherds, and other biblical figures, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere.

The procession begins at 02:00 p.m. at the First Republic Square and follows a route through the city, concluding at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi (Sameba). Along the way, participants sing Christmas hymns, share greetings, and collect donations of food, clothing, and gifts for those in need.

Alilo is not only a religious event but also a symbol of unity and goodwill, embodying the spirit of Christmas. Both locals and visitors are invited to experience this unique celebration and join in the festive spirit.
